What does the squeeze test test for?
The squeeze test is used to identify fibular fractures or syndesmosis sprains.
How is the test performed?
Patient Position: Lying with the knee extended
Position of Examiner: Standing next to, or in front of, the injured leg. The evaluator's hands cupped behind the tibia and fibula away from the site of pain.
Evaluative Procedure: Gently squeeze the fibula and tibia, gradually adding more pressure if no pain or other symptoms are elicited. Progress towards the injured site until pain is elicited.
Positive Test: Pain is elicited
Implications: A) Gross fracture or stress fracture of the fibula when pain is described along the fibular shaft. B) Syndesmosis sprain when pain is described at the distal tibiofibular
